What is the most reliable way to store our data ? Through the obsolescence of file types, degradation of USBs/hard drives and the unpredictability surrounding the companies that offer cloud support, compared to physical media, our digital files are in a very precarious position. How will our civilization be seen in times to come when all our digital records have perished ? Will historians call our time the digital dark age, where technology moved so fast that it out ran itself ? It seems that the most reliable way to pass digital data down through generations is to physicalise it. Does this mean we need to physicalise our current data volume ?
