"Kisses" was made in collaboration with scientists at Nokia Bell Labs, during which I utilized their Schlieren imaging machinery. The work "Kisses" reflects on the hope that arises as a byproduct of longing. A blown kiss is a flight of fancy, requiring both parties to believe that a kiss is truly traveling from one person to another. It is something that never truly existed—a kiss that never truly happened.
With the use of Schlieren imaging, a system commonly employed in fluid dynamics research, the blown kiss can actually be seen traveling through the air. This demonstrates that a blown kiss is as real as any other you might receive and that blown kisses indeed make their way to the cheeks they are aimed at.
